From the Pastor’s Pen

Try to find yourself in Luke 17:7-10 for a moment!  Tucked away in these verses is the parable of a slave who put in a hard day’s work – plowing the fields and tending the sheep.  He comes in wringing wet with sweat, tired and hungry.  His master calls to him from the table, “Hey, Joe!  Come sit down and have some dinner with me.”  (Uh… Not exactly)

Instead the master greets him at the door and says to his worn – out slave:  “So what’s for supper?”  Later on, of course, this main man of the house will be glad for his servant to refresh himself, but for now there’s a master who needs serving.  There’s everything that is needed for preparing a meal in the kitchen.  There is a duty to perform.  So the slave washes his hands and face and starts whipping up some grub.

Now who is the bad guy in this story?  The slave driving master?  We’d like to think the master would understand how tired his servant is.  We’d be impressed if the master tied the apron around his own waist and got enough for the two of them for dinner.  But for all we know, the master doesn’t even thank the slave.

Jesus sums up this story with these surprising words “In the same way, when you have done all that you were commanded, you should say, ‘We are good-for-nothing slaves; we’ve only done our duty.’” (verse10)

This is for us – we are servants of the living God.  We may get tired, disgruntled and even out of sorts.  But we can never get to the point where we do not understand that we serve HIM out of our love for him.

Let’s serve Him, He served us on the cross.

From the Bookworm

Again, we welcome your visits and comments in your church library.  We are blessed to have so many books, videos and sermons to choose from.  Are there any titles or authors you would like to see in the library, please let me know.  I plan on trying to keep the library open some during the week days, real soon.  God bless and hope to see among the books.

Awana News

Awana is going strong! – We just need more children.  If you know of children who would like to attend our Awana program and need transportation, please let us know.  We will be glad to run our van for this ministry.  Would it not be great to double our attendance in Awana each week?  What a ministry to teach children the Word of God!  Help us grow this ministry!

Senior Saints’ News

Is has been so cold outside and we have been in the house for quite a while.  (Weather permitting), why not join us on February 2nd @ 8:00 a.m. for Breakfast at Angie’s?  You will enjoy the time out of the house and the fellowship with your church family.

On Tuesday, February 23rd, we will “try it again” and travel to Cowan and have lunch at “The Corner House.”  This is a great little tea room and everyone really seems to enjoy lunch there.  We will leave the Church at 10:00 a.m. and have lunch at 11:00 a.m.  See the sign up sheet in the lobby for this trip.

There is a Senior Adult conference in Gatlinburg in September.  We have not been in a few years.  If you would be interested in a trip like this, please let me know.  There is a possibility we can travel with a group out of Huntsville if we cannot get enough to make the trip ourselves.

The dates for one convention are: September 27 – October 1, 2010.  The cost is $325.00 per person (this is two per room).  We may be able to get less expensive rooming – but I need to know the interest before working on this trip.

Stay warm and K.L.U…. God is still God!

                                                                   Brother Mike

Rich Word from Richard

As I write this I am still in recovery from D-Now.  It is an exhausting time but it is worth every minute.  You cannot compare the experience with anything and the impact it has on students is always visible.  Thanks to all who helped and prayed.

We will be announcing camp dates in the next few weeks.  It is exciting to look ahead to what God will do there.

We will be having a youth activity on Feb. 14, eating dinner and playing Underground Church on Sunday night @ WEBC.  This will start immediately after our first ever Aftershock Service and end at 9:30 p.m.

Youth Camp is Coming

We will begin our luncheons soon to help with the cost of camp.  Please be watching for the date in February for the first luncheon.

News From Behind the Puppet Stage

Both of WEB’s Puppet teams hopes that everyone enjoyed the Christmas program.  Both teams worked really hard together on getting that performance ready on time.  Jr. Puppets did an outstanding job on their parts.  Sr. Puppets didn’t do bad either.  Both teams had a lot of fun doing the show and would like to thank Ashland Ford and McKinna Self for their parts in our show.  WEB Puppets both Jr. and Sr. are learning new songs and hope to have a program together in 2-3 months.

With the new Sunday night programs our numbers on Sunday night Jr. Puppets are up.  Jr. Puppets are working really hard to learn techniques and new songs to perform with the Sr. Puppets when they get ready to do a show.

Wednesday night’s Sr. Puppets have lost several of our people for various reasons, but are still working together to get ready for another performance.  We are also working on bringing in new people.  We have had some visitors on Wednesday nights and would like to see them come back to be a part of our team and our church.

Eric Maples, one of our puppeteers who has joined the Navy, wants to thank everyone for the letters and cards that he has received while in basic training.  He misses his church family very much.  He graduates Basic Training on February 5th, but according to one of his letters, he will be going straight into another training and will not be able to come home after basic training.  I have been sending at least 4-5 letters to him every Monday from different members of our church, and will continue to do so.

If you know of anyone that may be interested in either Jr. or Sr. Puppets, invite them to come and sit with either group.  Just remember, Jr. Puppets, 1st grade through 6th grade, meets on Sunday nights at 6 p.m. and Sr. Puppets meets on Wednesday nights at 6 p.m.  Everyone of any age is welcome.
